Question
My employer has paydays on the 1st and the 15th of each month. I works in the field as a technician and i am not in the office for any extended amount of time on some days not at all. My boss is telling me that the company will not pay me for the time i take to go to the office to pick up my check and that i have to get it after work on my own time. I live 40 miles from the shop and drive a company van for work, This means i would have to drive 80 miles round trip in my own vehichle after work to pick up my check. In the past i have always made sure to be at the office on payday to get my check which i have always claimed on my timecard with no questions ever asked. Should they have to pay me for that time or should i have to get my check on my own time?

Answer
First of all the employer does not have to pay you to go pick up your check.

You do have some other options.

Ask the company if they offer direct deposit which would be the easiest option. Your check would go directly into your bank and there would be no check to pick up.

your other option is to ask the company to mail your check to you. It would take a couple of days to get there, but it would be cheaper than driving 40 miles to pick it up.
