Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues/e-mail as timecard?

Question
Can employers use e-mail as a timecard? I work at a new company that doesn't have a timecardsystem but uses internet. They say start time is 7:10 a.m.If I arrive @ 7:08 for example and then wait for the computer to boot and send a clock in time for 7:12, that to them is considered late. Do you know if that's legal?

Answer
The computer is set to round time.  If you checked in on our computer system at 7:12 it would round to 7:15. If it takes a little bit for the computer to boot up perhaps you should arrive a little earlier. If you arrive at 7:08 it will still clock in 7:15. If you clock in at 7:06 i6 will clock in at 7:00.
