Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues/payroll cut off days

Question
hello, my name is Brian and i got a question for you. i work for an air forwarding company and we get payed on the 1st and 15th of each month. the cut days for our hours to turn in are the 10th and 25th. my employee is cutting our weeks shorter and letting the hours accumulate for next pay period. now they are trying to make us cut our hours on the 8th. so by 3-4 months from now they will pay a month later for what we worked. that doesn't sound right to me. also shouldn't they give us a notice in advance via meeting or some kind of notice, not just whatever they feel like cutting hours, but still paying twice a month. thank you and i hope you will be able to shed some light on this for me. im a little mad.

Answer
Brian,

The company should have regular paydays and regular cut off periods. It is only allowed to change the paydate if it is meant to be a permanent change.

The pay should not be a month behind when the time is worked.

If the paydate is changed you should have notice before any time is worked on the new payday.

I would contact your local department of labor and talk to them about it. They can contact your company and talk to them about the irregular paydays and cut off dates.
