Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues - Bonus wages

Expert: Shirley McAllister, CPP, PHR - 10/9/2009

Question
Are bonus wages processed as a separate payment subject to voluntary deductions such as 401k contribution?

Answer
Bonus wages processed as a separte payment may or may not be subject to 401K contributions. It depends on how the plan is set up and how it is written. You would have to refer to your plan summary to find out if bonus wages are applicable to the 401k deduction. If you are paying in a percent of wages they probably are.
