Question
Hello- employer allows a 6 minute window from my start time to clock in, this time is unpaid as it allows me to get to my work station, is this legal? Also, if I am late even one minute past my start time employer deducts this. Is this also legal? Please advise..thank you! Californa employer

Answer
You must be paid from the time you clock in on the clock to work until the time you clock out. It can be rounded to the nearest 15 minutes. If it rounds to the nearest 15 minutes than 6 minutes would round up and 7 minutes would round down.

For example if you are supposed to check in at 8:00 and you check in at 8:06 than it should still be 8:00. If you check in at 8:07 than it will round down to 8:15.
