Question I've just been notified that I have been overpaid in my pension by 72,000.00 and they are demanding immediate repayment. I have used 1/3 for living expenses and lost 1/3 to market slump and used the 1/3 on a purchase of land. I am only receiving disability payments that started in 2007. I cannot return the money, it was not my fault. What I receive doesn't cover my mortgage, common charges and utilities monthly. Can they make it harder for me? I am in Connecticut USA
Answer First, I would strongly recommend your talking to an employment attorney.
The question of your not being able to repay the money is, I do not think, relevant, if an error was made.
I am not certain what the rules are though in your situation.
