Question
I don't really know how to ask this question so I will do it to the best of my knowledge.  I live in California and I just received my paystub its the weekend and there was a notice that came along with my check stating that $600.00 was paid out to the IRS.  Now before the Payroll department does this shouldn't I be notified? I have written down the number to the IRS as I have no idea why they are taking the funds.  Thank you for all you help in advance..

Answer
If 600.00 was paid out to the IRS than I an assuming that the payroll department recieved a tax levy on your wages which is the same as a garnishment.

I always call and let employees know when this happens so they know ahead of time. The Payroll department is obligated to collect for a tax levy, they do not have a choice.

You should have recieved a letter from the IRS with the same information that payroll recieved.

I would contact payroll and ask why the 600.00 was taken out and if they say a tax levy than you can ask them for a copy of the levy.
