Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues/Changing payroll cut-off date?

Question
We do payroll bi-weekly and next month (November) cut-offs are the 3rd and 17th. However, from the 17th to 20th, everyone with signing authority on the payroll account will be away from the office (trade show). Any suggestions on how to approach this? Can we simply move the cut-off to the 16th and process paycheques on the morning of the 17th? Thanks!

Answer
You can move the cut-off to the 16th. Tell all employees and supervisors that all time will need to be in on the 16th. If they do not know how long they will work have them put in their regular time and if they work over it will be adjusted on the next payroll check.

Make sure they know that time must go in or you will not be able to process their payroll.

I think I have to do this on almost every holiday because we always pay the day before and that means I have to do payroll early.
