paid state and fed income taxes for 2008 just before oct 09 deadline ---but didn't submit 1099's for independent contractor helpers early in the year when i was supposed or at the oct time should i try to do it now want to do right thing and stay out of trouble and/or not call undo attention to myself--Thanks --jack

If you withheld income tax or paid more than 600.00 to the contractors for the year they should have had a 1099 so they could file taxes,claim the income and claim the federal and state taxes withheld.

I cannot tell you any different because that is legally how it should be done.

You need to know if you send out 2008 1099's in 2010 they are way overdue, what happened to the 2009 1099's, were those sent out? If you do send out these 1099's for 2008 each person you send one out to will have to file an amended return. This will probably call attention to you and you could be fined for each late 1099. If you are talking about 2009 1099's get them sent out pronto it is only February and taxes do not have to be filed until April.

I do not understand the October deadline that you are speaking of. My 1099's are to be out by 12-31st of the year. Taxes are paid when they are deducted from the money paid to the contractor.
