Hi Shirley,

My wife and I are massage therapists and worked as part time on call subcontractors for a spa during the course of 2009. We have been waiting for our 1099's from them and decided to call today to find out the status. The owner informs us his payroll company no longer provides 1099s and instructs us to file without one? I have never heard of this before?

I appreciate your time and insights on this, I too am a volunteer on All Experts under the massage category.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated

I have never heard of this either. They are obligated to send 1099's to everyone that earns over 600.00 in a year unless they are a corporation.

You can see in the instructions where it lists the type of income for which a 1099 is required. Those can be found at:http://www.irs.gov/instructions/i1099gi/index.html

You can file without the 1099 but if you did not keep track of your income than you will have to do the best you can to try and estimate what you have earned. It would be listed as other income on your 1040 form.

If you are not getting a tax form than one is not sent in to the IRS either!
