Question
I am a salaried employee in colorado I work in the restaurant industry. I am wondering is it ok for an employer to have one work 90-100 hrs a week at a salary of $1000 and not compensate them for working over 55 hrs a week? They say I knew the scope of the work and that is what I accepted.

Answer
Salaried exempt employees are exempt from the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) and are not eligible for overtime pay.

THis is legal and it is fairly common for a salaried exempt to work more than 40 hours in a week. I don't think I have ever worked less than 45 in a week and sometimes much more in the past 28 years.
