Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues/UK Employee

Question
Hi Shirley,

This question is basically the same as the Canadian employee question except for the U.K. We may have one employee in the UK and do not have an entity or branch established. I have contacted ADP in the UK (waiting for a response). Do we have to set up an entity in the U.K. to pay one employee or can we contract with ADP to handle it? It states on the ADP UK website that we can draft payroll out of our U.S. bank accounts. Thanks!

Answer
UK is a little different than Canada. We had to have an agent in UK to do business there. I had Ceridian doing my payroll in UK. The government would not let us operate without an agent in UK. It was not a payroll issue but a governmental issue. There has to be a registered agent to do the annual taxes and to collect mail for your business. We hired a CPA to do our taxes and he is our resident agent.
