Accounting, Payroll & Pension Issues/Specialized accounting needs

QuestionHi,
-For years we have struggled with an inappropriate accounting package for our business, so we are finally considering finding one. Our company converts large rolls of adhesive-backed vinyl used for commercial signs, traffic signs, automotive pinstriping, graphics. So we're dealing in various colors, qualities, dimensions. Basically we're dealing in square footage--converting huge logs of the materials down to the standard sizes accepted in the industry, plus some custom work. We subcontract out various processes where another company stores about 20% of our inventory value.
-My thought was to find an accounting package used for paper or carpet manufacturing, as I have not found anything exactly tailored for our industry. Any ideas?

AnswerIf you have a trade association, ask them. If you attend a meeting ask your peers.
I am assuming that your accountant stuck you with this program with you because it works nicely for him. If he didn't, there is another resource.
When you are looking for a new system, know why this one doesn't work for you. Inventory control, costing, whatever it is.
Good luck
