Question
long island NY October 3rd weeding, any forecasts for an Indian summer day?

Answer
Patti,

Barring any tropical storms or hurricanes, early October can be a lovely time weather wise on Long Island. Thunderstorm season is basically past by then, and the large-scale rainstorms that occur later in the fall usually haven't begun yet. Temperatures have cooled off from the peak of the summer warmth, but it is generally a comfortable time of year, especially since you will be close to the ocean. Water takes longer to cool off than land, and so that normally keeps coastal places warmer into the fall than it is farther inland. Normal high temperatures at that time of year are around 70 degrees, with normal lows in the mid 50s. Record high temperatures in early October on Long Island are mostly  in the mid to upper 80s, with record low temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40. Again, barring any affect from tropical systems, it normally rains once about every 3 or 4 days that time of year.

I hope this helped!

Sincerely,

Dave Dombek
