Accuweather/Shipping Wine Across Country

Question
I am trying to find the best window-of-time to ship a wine collection (via standard moving van) from NJ to Los Angeles, CA.

I hope to find a "not too hot, not too cold" period of a couple weeks.  A prolonged hard freeze is a problem - as is heat of 75 degrees or more.

Initial thinking is between 11-1 and 11-15 (should work in CA but I'm not sure about weather in NJ and across the Great Plains and through the Rockies).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Greg,

That is a very good question! In general, if temperatures are running close to NORMAL in that time window that you had mentioned, then it should not be a problem. Unfortunately, the weather rarely is normal. In fact, the normals are the product of the extremes. Typically, in the month of November, the jet stream buckles wildly across North America. That means that in some places, the temperatures cold be running way above normal...very warm to even borderline hot, while in other locations, on the other side of the jet stream, it is unusually cold. If we have one of those high amplitude patterns in November, then you will probably run into one of the extremes during the trip...if not both. That is about all I can tell you at this juncture. Your best bet would be to check back with us a little closer to your trip. If we have a very flat, zonal flow (west to east flow) across the U.S. at that time, then you may be OK.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
