Question
Dear Dave,

We have a family vacation scheduled for Cancun, Mexico from July 24-31.  Unless I am misinterpreting the weather forecasts, it looks like Cancun is in for some rotten weather during this entire time period.  We are thinking about rescheduling the whole vacation.  Can you please give me your opinion of what the weather will be like in Cancun next week?

Thank you,
Nathan Kahn

Answer
Nathan,

From what I can tell, it really doesn't look all that bad. I don't foresee any tropical storms or hurricanes hitting Cancun during that period. Sure, there could be a shower or thundershower from time to time, perhaps even including a downpour. However, you have to remember that you are deep in the tropics and there is plenty of moisture around. Any little disturbance or wrinkle that comes along in the flow could touch off a period of unsettled weather. Even so, these unsettled episodes usually don't last for very long. In between, it is generally just rainfree and very humid...hot by day and quite warm and sticky at night. The most comfortable locations will be right near the water, since a noticeable breeze will always be blowing there.

I hope this helped!

Sincerely,

Dave Dombek
