Question
Hi Dave,
I tend to ask this question of you every couple of years.  We are planning an outdoor corporate event in the Quad Cities (MLI) for one of these dates:  Oct. 14, 16, 21 or 23, 2004.  Would you please send me the average temperature & rainfall amount for the past 10 years for each of these dates?  I appreciate your time and expertise.  Thank you!

Answer
Marge,
Here is a condensed version of the information you need for MLI in October...
The normal temperatures during that period fall steadily. On October 14th, the normal high is 66 and the normal low is 42. By the 23rd, the normal high has fallen to 61 and the normal low has dropped to 39. On the dates you had listed, there have been times when temperatures did not make it out of the 40s. However, there were also times when readings got close to 80 during the day, especially on the 14th and 16.
As for rainfall, the normal for the entire month of October at MLI is 2.80", and on average, it rains about every 4 days. Out of the past 10 years, there has been one year (1999), when less than an inch of rain fell the entire month, a total of 0.86". On the other hand, the year before (1998) brought a total of 7.61" of rain for the month. In 2001, 4.16" of rain fell in October. For the remaining 7 out of those 10 past years, the October rainfall has ranged from 1.22" to 2.85".
As you can see, there is a lot of variability in October at MLI.
I hope this helped you out.

Sincerely,
Dave Dombek
