Question
I have a 1972 Alvarez guitar byKuzuo Yairiand am thinking of donating it to a performing arts high school and need some sort of value for it.  The inside label says it was made in 1972, Model #5049, Serial #3640.  There is a signature, but it looks like it is stamped onto the label.  It is in good repair and shows no wear other than for one small shallow nick/gouge in the wood (less than 1/4 inch long.  I also have the original "hang tag" from purchase that lists "St. Louis Music Supply Co.", as well as a heavy duty carrying case.  Can you help with this?

Answer

Well, I can only give a ball park figure... To get a proper value, you would need to take it to a shop, and have it inspected and appraised. But for a ball park figure, based on your description, I would say around $800 or so....This is just based on the average selling price at this time. Next week it could be down around $400 or less, or could be up around $1200. It is an odd market for the Yairi models. They fluctuate in selling price allot.

 Hope this helps..
