Question Hello, I have an acoustic Alvarez guitar that I purchased right out of high school in 1980. The guitar has remained in the family, throughout my children, and I am considering using the guitar myself as I never really found time to learn to play it myself. The kids, however, did put it to good use the last 20 years. I would like to gather a little information on it. I do not have experience in identification and only learned today what a 'neck heel' was! Well, with that said...I believe this is a classic style or dreadnought style guitar as it has the larger body.. the inside sticker reads model #5014 and serial #7175, made in Japan. There is nothing on the 'inspected by' line. There are 3 numbers on the edge, (where 2 pieces of wood meet and are mounted on the inside, by the round opening towards the bottom of the guitar)that is stamped with the number 388. I don't know if this is important or not as I have a lot of learning to do. I would like to keep this guitar in the family but would also like information on it for future reference or repair needs. I have looked but can not find anything that matches this model number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Answer Hey. The same as you, I couldn't find anything on the model number. I ran a search on the serial number (in an Alvarez Yairi search because the mediums I use have no search for a regular Alvarez), and it cam back as built in 1995. I know that can't be correct. One sure way of getting information on guitars is to go to your local shop and have them take a look at it. You have a great guitar there. Alvarez makes a fine instrument. I would definately take it to your local guitar shop and get it looked at. Yet again, I am so sorry I couldn't assist you further. Thanks for your question!
