Question
I have a Taylor 414ce and when i plug it into my amp it makes a static type sound you can make out the notes but its static and then after about 10-15 seconds it just stops making sound all together. What is this and how can i fix it? thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

Without seeing the instrument, I can only venture a guess as to what the problem might be.

My guess would be that the input jack is either defective or a wire has come off one of the jack contacts.

You will have to take the jack out and look at it to see if there are any wires touching, frayed, or loose. If this is the problem, the wires will need to be re-soldered to the contacts, or the short corrected.

If no wires seem out of place, then the jack is bad and will need to be replaced.

Unless you are VERY competent with a soldering iron, I would recommend you take it to a trusted luthier/repair tech to get it fixed.

In very rare cases, there might be something defective on up the line to the control module. If that is the case, the whole pickup system would need to be replaced. But, like I said, this is VERY rare in Taylor Sound systems. They are generally very good systems and have minimal problems.
