Acoustic Guitars/Yamaha FG720SL

Question
First off, I am a beginner. The sound from the guitar is rather tinny rather than a good deep, wood sound that I would like. I am learning Country,Western music. The seller put new strings on it when purchased so don't know what is on it. Action seems high and I am having difficulty playing it. Can this be remedied at a reasonable cost? If not, what is approximate value of the guitar in good, used condition?

Answer
Hello,
This is a fairly decent guitar to begin on, I believe it has a solid top which is good.
A few things on the tone -- it will "mature" into a deeper, richer sound over the years, solid tops never sound that great in the first few years. Also if the strings are really new they will be tinny for a couple of days. You can easily get the action fixed at your local luthier, shouldn't be much more than $100. If you still dont like the sound or cant wait a few years for a nicer tone, you could expect US$100-200, depending on condition.
Hope this helps!

Hello I can answer most question on anything to do with Yamaha acoustic guitars, as well as a range of other Japanese made vintage acoustic and classical guitars. As a collector and trader I have a pretty good knowledge of trends and current values. As a said, Yamaha's are my area of specialty, particularly any made at the Nippon Gakki, or Japanese factory.
