Question "Hi James, I'm thinking about buying from my local store a Guild D-40 acoustic guitar.
They told me that the guitar is new(in the sense that nobody had bought it so it
has been sitting in the display a while) and I want to find out from what year it is and how much it is actually worth?
It seems unused as no wear or scratches at all on the body or neck.
The serial number is "CVM000229" made in Corona, California.
Thanks for your answer.
Answer
Well, not sure to the exact year, but it's going to be around a 2001-2003 model. as it was in 2001 they moved to Corona and 2003 was the last year it was made, so my guess would really be 2003 as the year it was made.. the serial number isn't much help here, because they didn't really have a serial number method in place yet, so there isn't much info for this period. as for the value, well, I wouldn't pay more than say $900 for it, as it's been there on display, being handled, and dinged, and therefore isn't new, it's used. and must be sold as such because it's past it's production year. That's my take on it. If it's in incredible condition, as in not handled at all hardly, then maybe I would go as high as $1100, but that is a huge maybe.. it would only be if it were pristine, and the store was a small mom and pop style, with decent people at the helm..
