I purchased a Kiso Suzuki acoustic guitar, model W300,in 1977 for the grand total of $177.00 (tax and guitar case included).
Was just reading a Suzuki guitar website and it made reference to a rumor that the Martin Guitar Co. sued Suzuki for it's copy of the Martin D35. The W300 model has the triple back as did the Martin D35. In 1979, I bucked up for a Martin D28, shade top and love it dearly, however I am at a loss to find $1500 difference in sound. The Martin has a better sound, but not much. With a new set of strings the Suzuki rings like a bell. It goes everywhere and the Martin stays home. My friends are in awe of the triple back and most have never heard of Suzuki guitars. Question #1. Was there a law suite against Suzuki by Martin. #2 Any idea of what this particular guitar is worth? No matter, it's priceless to me.
Answer Hello, I did some research and couldn't find any proof of a lawsuit, although some of those things are kinda kept hush hush. You could probably contact martin and they might can tell you more about it. As far as it's value I've never really seen alot of them for sale. But just estimating I would say it's between $500 and $1000, depending on the condition. Sorry I couldn't give you and exact amount if I find out anything else I will be glad to let you know. Also just in case you didn't know I have a mastin d-28 shaded top as you have and recently had it apprased and it's worth about 8000 dollars. Thanks alot for your question and sorry for the length of time it took to answer your question but I wanted to be as exact as possible. Have a nice day and let me know if you need anything else.
