Question
QUESTION: I own a D-19 Martin I purchased in about new 1980.  I looked the S/N up on the Martin web-site and it showed it was built in 1977.  I came across a notation in a Magazine that showed Martin only ever made 30 of this Model.  I was surprised by that.   This guitar is part of my soul so I will never sell it but now I am interested in finding out more information on the model.  Do you know any other place I could go to get more information?

ANSWER: Interesting, I would Contact Martin directly...  They are the only ones that can give ANY information about it.. I do know it isn't even listed on their website.. And I can't say as I have ever played a D-19 or seen one.. So, I would contact them, they can give you more info on exactly how many were produced..  They can give you more detailed specs on your guitar as well.. Anyway, I hope that helps.. Martin is very easy to deal with. they have always responded quickly and given me any information I requested..

QUESTION: I have contacted Martin but have not received an answer yet.  I believe a D-19 is essentally a D-18 as far as construction goes the difference being the sound board is mohogany.  The Guitar is stained dark brown on the front as well as the back and sides. Thanks for your input

Answer
Ok, What I found in the Bluebook is that the D-19 specs are:
spruce top, round soundhole, black pickguard, three-stripe bound body/rosette, mahogany backsides/neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, rosewood bridge with white black dotpins, rosewood peghead veneer with logo decal, three-per-side chrome tuners, available in Dark Brown
finish, mfg. 1976-1988.
The D-19M is:
similar to the D-19, except has mahogany top, mfg. 1980 and 1982 only.
So, if yours was made in 1977 it would have a spruce top, otherwise, it's an 80 or 82 model D-19M.. In excellent shape, the D-19 is worth about $1300, in average shape, about $850.. The D-19M is worth about $1250, and $800 so about $50 bucks less, which means sales wise, you'd get roughly $1000 for the D-19 in excellent shape, and $600 in average shape, and the 19M would get about $800 and $500..

Hope that helps... It takes a couple days to get a response from Martin on your request.. please let me know what they tell ya, I am very curious on this one myself..
