Question Recently I purchased a Takamine Acoustic Electric Guitar Model EC132SCx at an estate sale for my granddaughter. The Serial number is 02121099. I was wondering if you could give me any idea of the actual value. My granddaughter is 14 and she wants to learn how to play the guitar. Will this be a good starting guitar for her?
Thank you,
Kathy
Answer Hi Kathy..
This particular Takamine was made on Dec 10th 2002, and is a wonderful guitar for your 14 year old granddaughter. This will last her a long time, has a great tone, The solid Cedar top adds a warmth to it that is very nice.. Solid rosewood back makes it present well. It is a fantastic guitar... As for value, I have to give my normal disclaimer, that I cannot give an appraisal without having the guitar in my hand, and truly inspecting it, and I don't do that anyway. You would need to take it to a reputable shop and have it appraised. But basically, they are selling for between $600 and $800 right now.. And as for your granddaughter learning, a good teacher is invaluable, but if she is wanting to teach herself, have her check out http://guitarnoise.com has some great lessons.
