Subject: Takamine Value?

Question
We recently came across a Takamine guitar in it's hardshell case, the certificate states that it's a C134S and it was made in Japan. It is also date stamped April 1978. I can not find any information about this model. Would you be able to give me an estimate on it's value if any?  Thank you

Answer
It is a classical nylon string guitar... with Rosewood sides and back, and the rosette around the sound hole generally came with a printed pattern, of x's and diamonds, circled with a rope pattern... These usually, in excellent condition, sell for around $250-$350.. Although lately I've seen a slump in sales... so, it might not be an optimal time to sell it... If you aren't interested in selling, only wanting an Insurance value, I would rate it for Insurance at 2.5 times this value..  So, 2.5 times $350 is $875.. I would use this figure for it, even if it isn't in Excellent condition.. Although you couldn't sell it for $875, you couldn't replace it for $350.. As for selling it, in good condition $150-$200  and average condition, $100-125..

  Hope this helps...
