Question
I have an alvarez acoustic guitar that was bought in 1969. the only number I can find on the guitar is 617. I also know it is a laminent top. I've called several places, who say they have no idea of the value, can you help?

Answer

I am afraid you are never going to get a good answer on this. Value of an Alvarez guitar is not much usually..  THey are pretty decent guitars, but I get hundreds of requests from people wanting to know what their guitar is worth, and most are Alvarez owners..  Alvarez guitars are everywhere.. They are the most purchased of all brands..  They are highly sought after for being an inexpensive and decent player. This means that they hold no major resale value. And are not as of now a collectible instrument...  The most you could probably get is $200-$300 for it. Unless you happened on Ebay at a good time, and might get closer to $400 or $500 for it. But that doesn't happen often. I would just hold on to it.. 1969 was when they first started to export them to the United States. So, this would be an early import. This could mean something later down the road. As of now, like I said, Alvarez holds no real collectability. But later, who knows.. Good luck to you, and enjoy that early Alvarez..
