Question HI
I recently purchased a 1962 Takamine acoutic guitar from a yard sale. It is complete with the original hard case. Can you give me any information and an approximate value on this guitar? Thanks
Answer Short answer, No, I can't... 1962 was the year Takamine was founded. They didn't start exporting until 1975. Any Takamine guitar made in 1962, would be extremely rare, and I mean EXTREMELY rare.. Could you get me some pics? and some other information from the inside? like numbers, close up of any labels and such. send them to guitaranswerman@jkoontz.com and I can take a look. If you actually have a 1962 Takamine, you could probably auction it( and I mean through an auction house, not Ebay) and get somewhere in the $2000.00-$3000.00 range.. Of course this is only an educated guess. Noone can ever truly gauge an auction for such a piece.. But, I really can't tell anything until I get some pics. The original hardshell case gets me intrigued, in 1962, Takamine was a family business, who just started to make guitars.. They didn't have actual Takamine hardshell cases for them until 1968... So I really need to see it, I know some people who have damaged the label inside, removing the letters EST. from where it says EST. 1962 (established 1962), and then try to pass them off as a 1962 Takamine, I hope that isn't what happened here.. But, without the pictures, I can't really say much more about it..
