Question
I have two old guitar shaped instruments, both seem to be tuned as 3 pairs of strings (6 total) one is a Harmony Master brand F-70 model (I think) and the other a yugoslavian brand (I can't read yugoslovian) "IVAN VALJECK
NOVA VES BROJ 33" also says "BROJ 401-T-606/1-K-275"
The Harmony looks like a regular closed face guitar(except for two skinny sound cutouts shaped like S's) but the bridge is set up for 3 pairs of two.  The Yugo is smaller
with a standard round sound hole. Are they guitars, mandolins.or ukalailies or what. Just want to tune and play them but I don't know what they are or where to find out HELP!!

Answer
They are Trichordo Bouzoukis..Tune it D-a-d (or E-b-e).. These were the normal bouzouki styles from around 1920 until about 1940, It is based on the Greek Trichord caleed a Pandouris..

It had three strings, and was the predecessor of most lutes.. I am quite jealous.. I have a few mandolins, but would love to have a nice older trichord bouzouki..

Tuned D-a-d you can play it in a similar fashion to a dulcimer.. Lots of possibilities.. Have fun!

 Hope this helps..
