Acoustic Neuroma/Long term tinnitus

Question
I have had problems with my left ear for 30 years. High pitched ringing, hearing loss, can hear speach but not well enough to make out words. Very slight balance problems. Had a grommet inserted 7 years ago which caused major bloody discharge. Had another grommet inserted again earlier this year with same results.  My ENT specialist has ordered an MRI. Could this be an acoustic neuroma.

Answer
It is best to wait for the results of the MRI rather than guess ahead of time.

Note that your ENT's determination of these results will be based not on the pictures themselves, but on the report of the radiology specialist that "reads" them.  To make sure the results can be trusted, please make sure that you get the pictures done with a gadolinium contrasting agent, and that they are read by a neuroradiologist (a radiologist who specializes in neurological issues).
