Acoustic Neuroma/weird noise around my head

Question
I have a noise that "feels"like it is surrounding my head and not in my ears. It sounds like a steam radiator. I have no numbness or ringing in my ears. Sometimes it is hardly noticeable and sometimes quite annoying.

Thank you for any suggestions as to what this may be.

Answer
If you were exposed to very loud noises when you were younger, perhaps during rock concerts or construction work, this might explain "the noise".  Or it could be a sign of something serious, especially if other symptoms are present. It is impossible for me to guess what you might have without more information.  For example, you did not mention if the noise is the same on both sides, or more on the one than the other.  Also, whether you have other symptoms, such as headaches, more difficulty talking on the phone with one ear than another. An ENT will hopefully be able to help you determine what this may be.
