Subject: could it be AN
Question Hi. 3 days ago I woke up with very very loud high pitched ringing only in my rt. ear , the right side of my head and ear under and behind ear and upper neck feel numb, like when novacaine is starting to wear off. and some mild hearing loss. I did have a migraine 2 days before and treat it with relpax. I do work for a Family Practice and saw my Dr. ears are clear no fluid. I saw and ent yesterday and had a hearing test and it shows mild high frequency hearing loss. Today i had another hearing test. which showed high normal hearing loss , high frequency. i am waiting for the ent to call me with all if these results.as of last night when my 4 yr old daughter talks or anything high pitched sounding it sounds distorted, like she is talking through a voice changer. Hard to discribe. the ringing is horrible all day. no change. and the numbness is concerning. From what i am reading. I feel there could be a good chance it is AN. If not what other causes could there be. I have not been subjected to any loud noises or have not been sick lately. Thankyou in advance. Lisa
Answer It sounds like a sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Causes can include viral, vascular, and other changes in the cochlea. Acoustic neuroma can also cause this problem, so you should have an MRI with gadolinium of the internal auditory canals.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
