Acting in Plays, Singing/singing
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 11/29/2008
QuestionHello my name is Stephanie Babington and i am thirteen years old and i love my singing and it is my dream to get far with it.I am doing my 4th grade exam on the 4th of December and recently i have been looking for auditions or something good to do with my singing because I would like to do something with it than just have one lesson a fortnight for an hour.I have performed in plays before but would like to do so much more than that.I was just wondering if you knew anywhere that will let me audition or join into a club after school to perform on stage and get far with my singing?
thank you for taking your time to read this :) hopefully to hear of you soon.
from Steph xx
AnswerHi, Stephanie –
Thank you for the question.
You need to do some simple Googling. In your search window – just type in the word audition, followed by the name of your town. See what happens. Then draw a 5 to 10-mile radius around your town and use the various community or city names within that area to expand your search information. You may be very surprised by the amount and variety of activities that are available to you.
No matter the club, religious group, young people's theatre company, civic chorale, etc., you must know and be able to present a variety of songs. Again, it's all about research. Consider Broadway songs, pop/standards from the last 80 years, spirituals, holiday and patriotic songs, etc. If you were studying with me and could only come every two weeks – you would have a binder filled with songs perfect for you and for every occasion.
How many songs do you have ready to go for the coming Holidays?
