Question Hi there,
I hope you find my question appropriate ~ My 9 year old daughter has a VERY powerful voice for her age and is being noticed everywhere for it ~ she has been asked to do several solo performances in theatre for charity, etc. The problem we have is that it is very difficult to find age appropriate material for her! She has sang 'castle on a cloud' in one show, but it isn't the song for her as she had to really hold back! She is going to sing 'Glory of Love' in the next show ~ but we have been asked for her to sing two solo's in one evening and I am really struggling as all the powerful belter type songs have inappropriate lyrics for a 9 year old. We just can't seem to find anything......we wan't a real show stopper! There was one we concidered ~ Don't rain on my parade ~ what do you think?
Please help,
Answer Hello! Thank you for allowing me to answer this question!
Your question is appropriate! Don't rain on my parade sounds wonderful..however..directors (and patrons) can sometimes find the "yelling" involved with the song a little annoying, but I have no clue about your daughter's talent (if only they had voice recordings available on this site!). Might I suggest a song from Guys and Dolls or Grease. Songs from these shows are really cute but not over the top. Good luck to your daughter! Thanks!
