Question Hi there!
My name is Samantha, and I'm 16 years old. Within the next few weeks, I plan on auditioning for a part in the "Jungle Book", which a theatre company I belong to is putting on. I'm not sure how many female roles there would be, but it is a general audition, not just for one specific character.
From previous experience with the director, I know that she already has the show mentally cast, but I am not sure where I fit into her plans. Regardless of this, I want to audition as if she had no set ideas about the casting. If she has "cast" me already, I want to prove that she was right in doing so. If not, I want her to seriously think about her choice.
I need two monologues and a musical theatre song for the audition. My vocal range is more in the alto or mezzo ranges, but my range is not that large. Do you have any suggestions for great monologues or songs to really impress her?
Thanks,
Sam
Answer Hi Samantha!
Well, first off, I would like to compliment the way you want to go into the audition--like the director hasn't pre-cast it. That's definitely the right mindset.
Second, I'd love to recommend some songs and monologues.
Since this is "Jungle" Book, your creativity and a bit of feistiness will be needed for the audition.
Might I suggest a monologue from Seussical the Musical?
And..for a song..might I suggest a classy version of "Fever" or, for a spicier audition, "I Want to Live in America" from West Side Story.
