Acting in Plays, Singing/AUDITION HELP

Question
Hello I'm Marie. I've read some of your past answers to questions and you seem to be very helpful. I am 15 and auditioning for Grease in less than a week. I am an alto and I have a good belting voice. I am  confused as to which role I should try out for and would best fit. I was thinking about Sandy, but some of her songs do not seem to match my voice and natural personality. Which role do you think would be best for a belting alto? Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you suggest some good audition songs for my situation. Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Marie...And thanks for writing.

Thanks for the compliment :)  I do try to be helpful through asking lots of questions back.  I do not and cannot know all the answers but I can help people think through some of the options and hopefully draw them closer to your answer.

So regarding your question, what role interests you?  What role not only interests you but also seems to match your voice and personality?  That's the role to go for.

At the same time, be open to another option that the Director might see.  After all, it is their call.

For audition songs, have you gone to the library and looked for alto musical songs?  There are options for you there to listen to and choose from.  That's the best way to choose.  And whatever you choose, practice and do it in the best way you know how.

Does that help?
