Question I have an audition coming up and I am not very good at singing or acting as far as I can tell. My singing is ok but I could quite easily be shown up by anyone. I don't even know how good my acting is but in the past I have not got any decent speaking parts. Please can you try to help me prepare. Thanking you in advance
Ellie xx
Answer Hi Ellie!
I wish I could tell you more, but this is the advice I can give:
Even if you don't feel confident in your skills, the last thing you want to do is show a lack of confidence in front of directors. Let your personality and friendliness show in all that you do. Directors would much rather work with a happy, motivated actress than a grumpy, unconfident one. Just remember that you are unique and most (good) directors will see that about you.
As for singing and acting, classes are always a good resource. See if any local theaters offer acting classes and ask local directors about reputable vocal coaches in your area. Never be afraid to ask questions, because even some of the most unknown people can be friends with some of the most well-known people in town. Name recognition has gotten people (like Idina Menzel, star of "Wicked") to great fame, fortune, Broadway, and beyond!
Good luck at auditons! Remember to stay strong, smile, and be confident in all that you do!
