Acting in Plays, Singing/audition piece

Question
Hey Amandalynne

I am a mix between an alto and a saprano, i can go high no problem but my voice sounds stronger in the middle to lower notes. i have auditions for a cabaret for my high school coming up and i would like to sing something fun, upbeat but still beautiful so i can really wow the judges. i also hope it could be more pop then musical, the performers do a lot of more modern things and i would like to do that, something age apropriate i guess. So if you could help me choose a song that would be great. Also i have a bit of initial stage fright and trouble with my stage presence, can you help me over come that or give me tips to work on it?

thanks so much!!

stephanie

Answer
Go to your local music store or amazon.com and purchase The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology versions.
You may also find it at your library.

I highly recommend it as a valuable investment for anyone who is going to be doing musical theatre.  I own all the soprano volumes myself.

Play around with the pieces in the anthology.  Find something that suits your voice and that makes you feel confident.  Practice!

It is hard to recommend a specific song without ever having heard you sing.  I would check out the anthologies and find one there.  Once you find something let me know what you pick and if you want audition tips.

Good luck!!
