Acting in Plays, Singing/audition song
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 10/12/2009
QuestionIn a couple of weeks i am auditioning for the school production of Les Miserables
we are not allowed to sing a song from the musical and no dramatic reading required so i am trouble with choosing a song that will showcase my vocal talent and my acting skills
i have a mid range voice and the song "On my Own" from Les Mis is ideal for me
any suggestions similar to this song or others would be great and appreciated very much
thanks
AnswerHi, Nikila –
Thank you for the question.
I’m going to assume that your rendition of “On My Own” conforms to the demands of a professional production and that you are an ideal candidate for Eponine.
Eponine is the true Pop Star in LES MISÉRABLES. Does a career in Pop Music appeal to you? If you have the option to audition with a pop song, then pick the one you know would work for “American Idol” and push Eponine through it.
If you have to sing 16 measures or more from a Broadway musical then consider any of the following, again with the idea of Eponine’s agenda.
“I swear I’ll give my life for you” – MISS SAIGON
“Now that I’ve seen her” – MISS SAIGON
“Far from the home I love” – FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
“Easy To Be Hard” – HAIR
“Mama Who Bore Me” – SPRING AWAKENING
