QuestionQUESTION: I am a 15 year old soprano 1 or soprano 2. I am auditioning for the role of Chava from Fiddler on the Roof for my high school. The auditions are coming up, and I am struggling to find a song to sing. If you have any suggestions I need them! Also, I don't have much experience auditioning, so if you have any audition tips I would love any advice! Thanks in advnce.
ANSWER: Hey Alli...And thanks for writing.
Congrats on the audition! Good for you. :)
Regarding an audition piece, it is important that you go and speak to a choir teacher or voice teacher in your school to ask for some help finding a piece. They know you better than I do and could probably point you in the right direction.
The other way to find a piece is to go to the library and look under soprano. Listen to songs in that section until you find one that you like, that you understand and that you can relate to. Then practice it up for your audition.
Tips for auditioning - Rehearse well. Breathe. Learn from the experience. Don't expect anything. Just go and do your best. Enjoy it! Let your talent show.
Does that help you?

QUESTION: Thanks for the advice. I've gotten some suggestions from other people and they seem to either suggest "Castle on a Cloud" from Les Mis, or "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story. I've considered these and I can sing them pretty well, but my only worry is that they are over done at auditions. What do you think??
AnswerHi there...Thanks for writing back, Alli.
The key is that you like the song you are singing and understand it and can identify with it. Do either of these songs fit those criteria? If so, then it is ok to do it and do it well.
