QuestionI am going to audition for the role of Mabel in The Pajama Game. I am having a hard time finding an audition piece. It can not be from the Pajama Game itself, but needs to be from any other musical. It will also help if the song is middle range because that is where the whole Pajama Game is at. I really can't find anything and I am running out of time, any and all help are greatly appreciated.
AnswerHi there, Teresa...And thanks for writing.
Congrats on the audition! That is a big step.
There are a number of ways you can find a song. It does take a little time but you can do it rather quickly if you are willing to focus on it:
1. Ask a choir or voice teacher for their suggestions, especially if you know one personally and they know you and your singing, this can be a very quick way to find a song.
2. Go to the library and listen to musical pieces for alto and mezzo soprano. They are usually categorized by part.
3. Think about a musical you love and a song you love from that musical and prepare that one.
The key to having a successful audition is partly from the choosing of a song that you understand, can relate to and love. This will make the preparation for the audition more easy.
I would give you actual suggestions but I don't know you and I have never heard you sing nor do I know much of your experience.
Does that help you?
