Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I want to sing a solo in my Broadway concert this year cause I'm a senior and its my last year. But, I'm a alto or even a tenor and I cant seem to find a song in my range. I need help finding a song! Can you think of any song that I could possibly sing/ audition for?

ANSWER: Hi Nichole...And thanks for writing.

Where are you a senior?  When you say Broadway concert, do you mean on Broadway?  Just curious.  :)

As for a song, have you tried to go to the library and look up alto songs for females?  The best way to find a song that I can recommend to you is to go and listen listen listen.

Make sure that the one you choose is a song that you can relate to and that you like.  And then do your best with it.

As I don't know you nor do I know your voice, I cannot give you exact songs that would fit you.  But I think you will have pretty good results if you give yourself time to go and listen to songs at the library.

The other thing you could do is go to a voice teacher or voice coach and ask them for some ideas.

The reason I like the library idea is because usually you can find something that you like rather than something that the teacher or coach likes.

Does that help you at all?

Answer
Hi Nichole...Thanks for writing back :).

Oh.  Just checking to see what your meant by Broadway.  LOL  It's totally fine if you don't live on Broadway.  I was just trying to be sure I understood what you meant by Broadway.

Google Broadway Alto Singers and see what you find out.  You may be surprised.

Regarding finding songs in the library, just go to your local library and tell the librarians what you want to do - listen to alto songs from musicals.  They will help you discover what your library system is.  Every library is different so it would be difficult for me to give you the exact system.  More than likely, there is a particular CD library they will send you to.  Usually the musical section is divided into soprano, alto, bariton, tenor and bass.

Asking your choir teacher is a great idea.

I hope you find something you love and can relate to.

Your questions are definitely not too hard.  They are good questions.

Does this help you?
