Acting in Plays, Singing/Audition help?

Question
Hello, I'm Nicole. I'm auditioning for a community theatre in several days and I have a couple of questions. I've been extremely busy with school and other things that I haven't had enough time to learn and rehearse a new song. Is it acceptable to sing a song from a show that I have already been in? I was thinking of singing "Not For The Life of Me" from Thoroughly Modern Millie because I was in the show at my high school last year, but since it will be on my resume, I do not want to make a lazy/bad impression on the director. What should I do? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi there, Nicole.  Sorry to take some time to get back to you.  I have been in a competition myself and just returned.

It is very acceptable to be in a show that you have already been in.  If you are unsure though, I would go and ask the director if this would be ok.

If it is not, then go to your library and look under soprano or alto (whichever you are) for songs and listen until you find one that you can relate to and can perform well. Then prepare.

Does that help you?
