Acting in Plays, Singing/help about picking an audition song
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 5/1/2009
Questionhello i have a few questions i'd appreciate you could answer, you see i will
attend a disney audition for a role on a disney cruise line's show, i will attend
2 types of auditions on one they are looking for pop gospel singers, so the
song selection should be in the pop gospel style, and the other one i plan to
attend, they are looking for singers for belle and cinderella and the musical
selection should be in the muscia theatre style, so i was wondering if you
could help me find the perfect song for both auditons, i dont have any
experience in theatre, so i dont know any song that could work for the 2nd
audition, i have plenty experience singing, im a soprano and my vocal range
is g# 5 do you think you can help me? my singing style is like christina
aguilera, thank you for your time.
AnswerHello, Alejandria –
Thank you for the question.
Seeing that your preferences lean towards Christina Aguilera, go ready to perform a couple of her numbers that you like best. Gospel music is not within my expertise. However, I can suggest material for Disney's "Belle" and "Cinderella".
Consider any of the following:
Falling In Love With Love – THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE
I Loved You Once In Silence – CAMELOT
Much More – THE FANTASTICKS
No Other Love – ME AND JULIET
Out Of My Dreams – OKLAHOMA
If you are serious about pursuing Broadway musical-type opportunities, then I want to urge you to invest in the following anthologies. The above songs are contained in them. Every song is published in the same key as the original score. You need to become familiar with the strategic songs in the Broadway soprano repertoire.
