Question
Hi,
I am about to try out for Grease and Cinderella. what kind of music should I prepare myself for because I have a hard time finding sheet music for Altos....And how do you read perfect when you have only seen the lines once? for an audition

Answer
Hi there, Chelsea...And thanks for writing.

Have you gone to the library and listened to musical songs for altos?  I would say that doing a song that is similar to Grease and then doing one that is similar to those found in Cinderella are the best.  You can do songs that are actually in these musicals if you want.  Just go and listen to a ton of these songs and pick the one that you can best relate to and understand.

Reading perfect after seeing the lines only once is a high expectation.  It is almost impossible to read perfect.  With practice, though, you can get very good at reading.  Just practice by auditioning often and reading outloud at home.

Does that help you?
