Acting in Plays, Singing - College Audition

Question
Hi John!

I'm auditioning for colleges at the beginning of next year and I have a big list of monologues that I've been considering to perform, and I just had a question about a couple of them.

1. A funny monologue from Eric Bogosian's "subUrbia."  In the monologue the character ends up stripping down to his underwear.  I know this might sound like a silly question, but do you think that the college people I'd be auditioning for will be okay with that if it's done in a completely comedic manner?

2. A funny monologue from Eric Bogosian's "Pounding Nails in the Floor With My Forehead."  I really like this monologue a lot, but I think it might be a problem because it's from a one-man show made out of a series of related monologues, and not a normal play with a story, etc.  Is it okay to do a piece from a show like that?

Thank you for your response!

Joshua.

Answer
Joshua,

I think you'd be better off with #2, rather than #1.  It's perfectly OK do to an audition from a show like that.  However, one of the first rules of auditioning is never make your audience uncomfortable, and so I think option 1 is out.

Good luck.
