Question
Dear Sir, I read your bio. and see the experience you have in theatre is very extensive. I am 34 years old but have been told by many people I look 25 to 27 years old. Which is a plus I guess. My question is how do I find and get involved with an acting coach or getting acting lessons?  I have had this desire for quite some time but never pursed it. Fear I guess. Could you give me any advice of what I should do first?

Answer
I recommend two options.  The first is to find a community college in your area that offers classes in theatre, and try one out to see if you really enjoy it.

Your second option is to find a local theatre company and audition for them.  Better yet, if the local company has classes, take a class from them.  Get lots of experience onstage before you decide to look for an acting coach.

Make sure that you want to be an actor because you love the theatre and you love the art, and not because you think you would be a famous actor or movie star.  If you think that, I will guarantee you will fail.  But if you just love the theatre and acting, and get yourself connected with a theatre company in your area, you will be able to be a working artist all your life.
