Question
Hi, I'm auditioning for Blithe Spirit at my high school next week. I'm not allowed to use a piece from the show, so can you give me some suggestions of selections from other show to use? I'm auditioning for the role of Madame Arcati, an eccentric, comical, and diverse character. I was thinking of something from Mame. My selection should be 3-5 minutes long. Thank you so much and have a nice day!

Answer
Hi there, Katie...And thanks for writing.

Congrats on the audition.

The best thing for me to do because I do not know you nor have I seen you work on stage is to suggest that you go to the library and find a monologue that you can relate to and that you understand.  You want something that resonates with you - that you can connect with.

If you think that something from Mame would work for you, then go to the library and find it.  And do your best with the audition.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to follow up with you after today as I will need to take a break from being an expert for a while.

I wish you the best in your audition and endeavors.
