Acting in Plays, Singing/monologue ideas

Question
Hello,
I am auditioning this week for Oliver and we are supposed to have a one minute monologue prepared in a British dialect (I am assuming they mean cockney).  I know in your profile it says no musicals but this isn't really about the music part, so I hope it's okay that I'm asking you.  I really need some ideas on what to do for a monologue. #1.  Do I need to pick something set in England or can I just add an accent to whatever monologue I choose?  Does it matter?  #2.  Should I go for a more comical one that shows of Nancy's bold, fun side or a more dramatic one that shows I can handle the abusive and death scene?  Any suggestions or monologues that would kind of go along her character?  (The song I am doing is more serious, so I'm thinking my monologue should be contrasting, but I don't know).  Thank you for your time, I appreciate it!

Answer
I'll see if I can give you some answers.

Regarding question 1 - only do a British accent if you are doing something where the speaker is British.  It's usually a poor choice just to add an accent on to something just to show you can do it.  Its better to have the material fit the accent.

Question 2 - I'd go with the comic.  As you said, the song is more serious, and its always good to have contrast in your audition.

Hope I'm not too late!
