Acting in Plays, Singing/Audition question: Wizard of Oz
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 11/1/2010
QuestionMr. Martinfield--
Hello! I am a 17 year old and I will be auditioning for the
Wizard of Oz later this year. I have a mezzo/alto range and
am looking at the part of Dorothy or the Scarecrow. Any
suggestions for songs? I currently was working on "Purpose"
from Avenue Q (and changing some of the lyrics) but I'm
second-guessing myself. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Natalia
AnswerHi, Natalia –
Thank you for the question.
Consider any of the following for your audition as "Dorothy":
The Trolley Song – MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
Zing, went the strings of my heart – LULLABY OF BROADWAY
I'm Always Chasing Rainbows – IRENE
For "Scarecrow":
Be A Clown – SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
Make 'Em Laugh – SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
Once In Love With Amy – WHERE'S CHARLEY
Some of these songs are contained in the “Judy Garland Souvenir Songbook”. To order this anthology on line, click on or paste the URL below into your browser:
